Obituary of Stanley C. Shaw
Stanley C. "Stub" Shaw, 92, of Willow Street, passed away Tuesday morning, June 4, 2019 at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Carthage, NY.
Born on August 21, 1926 in Watertown, NY, he was the only and adopted son of Charles and Edna Eggleston Shaw. He left high school and enlisted into the US Navy on August 4, 1944, serving onboard the USS Kingsbury, during WWII, receiving the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Star Medal and was Honorably Discharged on June 3, 1946, attaining the rank of Ship's Cook Third Class. After his military service, he went back to high school and graduated from Adams Center High School in 1947.
Stub married Marion A. Miner, daughter of Frederick E. and Elsie Ferguson Miner, step-daughter of Louis D. Miner, on November 19, 1954 at the Belleville Methodist Church Parsonage with Rev. Miles Hutchinson, officiating. Attendants were Donald and Rosemary Russell of Smithville, NY. Marion passed away January 19, 2019.
In 1982, he retired after 33 years of service from the New York State Department of Transportation, Watertown, NY, as a Tree Crew Foreman. He also worked for the Village of Evans Mills for 25 years and had previously worked for the Town of Adams Highway Department.
Stub was a 60-year member of the Evans Mills Fire Department and was Fire Chief for a time and a founding member of the Evans Mills Ambulance, Certified EMT, Evans Mills Fire Police and a former member of the Adams Center Fire Department.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and watching ships on the water. Stub was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather that loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include three children; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Louis and Laurie Shaw, Evans Mills, NY, Richard Shaw, Adams Center, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Jo and Wendell Putnam, Theresa, NY; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Billie Miner, Adams Center, NY; several nieces and nephews.
His wife, two sons, David Lee Shaw and Randy Joseph Shaw, and a brother-in-law, Donald Miner died previously.
Calling hours will be 2-4 pm Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY, with Military Honors at 4 pm. Family and friends will gather at the Evans Mills Fire Department, following services. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Adams Center, NY, at a later date.
