Jay F. Hanni, 79, lifelong resident of the town of Alexandria, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, NY.
Born on October 31, 1939 in Alexandria Bay, NY, he was a son of the late Martin and Cora Hotis Hanni and he graduated from Alexandria Bay High School in 1956.
After graduation, Jay worked on the family farm. He became owner and operator of the farm in the mid-1960's, retiring in the mid-1980's. For a time, he worked for a construction company, Cianbro Corporation, Alexandria Bay, NY, re-decking the Thousand Island Bridge and then St. Lawrence Home Builders, Thousand Island Park, NY.
Jay was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, bowling and his vegetable gardens.
Survivors include two children; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Eric Dosser of Fredericksburg, VA; a son, Andrew Hanni of LaFargeville, NY; one granddaughter, Alison Dosser; a sister, Linda Loran of Greensboro, NC; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Craig and Sonya Hanni, Redwood, NY, Kurt and Roberta Hanni, LaFargeville, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be at a later date.
Donations may be made in memory of Jay to a local ambulance or fire department of one's choice.
