Obituary of Kenneth Leamon

formerly of Antwerp, NY
Kenneth R. Leamon, Pastor Emeritus of the First Congregational Church of Antwerp, NY currently serving as Supply Pastor of First Baptist Church of Central Square, NY went home to be with his Lord on August 4, 2018.
Born May 30. 1932 in Binghamton, NY, he was one of eleven children of George T. and Alma V. West Leamon.
He was educated in local schools and furthered his religious studies at various colleges and seminaries throughout his life.
Rev. Leamon joined the United States Air Force immediately after high school serving from 1952 to 1956 in Hawaii as a Personnel Counselor during the Korean Conflict/Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Antwerp Queen of Sheba Masonic Lodge and the American Legion in Antwerp.
He married his wife, Nancy on September 20, 1958 in Binghamton, NY.
In September of 2017 Rev. Leamon was honored to be part of the 10th Honor Flight Syracuse Mission. He was proud to have had this opportunity.
Known as the “people’s” pastor (lovingly known as the Sermonator) he served many churches over his career. His family was his pride and joy. Time spent with them was his greatest treasure. His quick wit and sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, of almost 60 years; daughters, Cyndy Leamon-Martell and Caren Speich and her husband, Douglas; granddaughters, Emily Rose, Abigail Elaine and Sara Elizabeth; siblings, Delores (John) Cole, Stuart (Marian) Leamon, Robert (Carol) Leamon, Leonard (Glenda) Leamon, Laurence Leamon, George (Evelyn) Leamon, Richard (Gail) Leamon; many nieces and nephews. Also, several special “furry” grandchildren.
Besides his parents, George and Alma Leamon, two sisters, Shirley Green and Phyllis Bush and a brother, Vernon Leamon died before him.
The funeral will be 3 pm Sunday at the First Baptist Church, 701 N. Main Street, Central Square, NY. Calling hours on Sunday will be 1 to 3 prior to the funeral at the church.
A Masonic service will be 12 pm Saturday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY. Legion honors will be provided by the Antwerp American Legion. Calling hours will be 11 to 12 prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial at Sandy Banks Cemetery, Carbondale, PA will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations are requested to the Honor Flight Syracuse, Inc., P.O. Box 591, Syracuse, NY 13209 to continue the mission of flying veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam Wars to Washington, DC to visit the memorials commemorating their services.
