Obituary of Dorothy Handschuh
Dorothy E. Handschuh, 90, of NYS Rt. 37, died Monday, May 7, 2018 at RiverLedge Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Ogdensburg, NY.
Born on May 7, 1928 in Theresa, NY, she was a daughter of Lawrence and Lillian Hill Neuroth. She graduated from Theresa High School in 1947.
Dorothy married Deforest G. Handschuh on December 3, 1948 at St. James Episcopal Church, Theresa, NY. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm from 1968 until the early 2000's. Deforest died July 31, 2007.
She worked at various restaurants, including Foxy's Restaurant, Fishers Landing, NY, Royal Manor, Admiral's Inn, and Beefer's, all in Alexandria Bay, NY.
Dorothy enjoyed cooking, crafting, gardening, canning and volunteering for many local events. Puzzles were a favorite past time as well as spending time with family and friends.
She was a member St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rebekah's Lodge, Redwood Home Bureau and the Redwood Historical Society, all in Redwood, NY.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Kathryn Handschuh, Redwood, NY; two granddaughters, Kimberly McClora, Caralee Handschuh and her companion, Eric Ely, all of Redwood, NY; great-grandson, Brennan Hemphill, great-granddaughter, Kailee Knight, great-grandson, Michael McClora and a step great-granddaughter, Aleigha Ely; a sister, Marion Putnam, Theresa, NY; close friend and relatives, Shirley and Norris Handschuh; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be 1 pm Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY, with Rev. Allan J. Ferguson, of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Redwood, NY, officiating. Burial will be on the family plot in Redwood Cemetery, Redwood, NY. There will be a Celebration of Life after services at Bonnie Castle Resort, 31 Holland Street, Alexandria Bay, NY.
Calling hours will be 11-1 pm prior to the service.
