Obituary of Sara LaFave

PHILADELPHIA

Sara G. "Josie" LaFave, 76, of Elm Ridge Rd., passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at UR Thompson Hospital, Canandaigua, NY.

Born on April 7, 1941 in Buffalo, NY, she was a daughter of Wayne and Beverly Kapples Gaige. She graduated from Indian River Central School in 1959 and St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing in 1962.

Josie married Robert K. LaFave on August 18, 1962 at the Theresa United Methodist Church with Rev. A. Howard Gabriel, officiating. Robert was a self-employed milk truck driver and he passed away August 10, 1993.

She was a nursing supervisor at the former House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, NY and nurse manager at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Carthage Area Hosptial, Carthage, NY, retiring in January 2004.

Josie was a member of the Red Hats Society and a board member of Bodman Memorial Library, both in Philadelphia, NY.

She enjoyed crafting, reading, baking and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include three children, two daughters and two sons-in-law, Sally and James Wojtarowicz, Canandaigua, NY, Patti and James LaClair, Philadelphia, NY; a son, Robert LaFave, Philadelphia, NY; seven grandchildren, Andrea Wojtarowicz, Justin Wojtarowicz, Zachary LaClair, Meaghan LaClair, Brynne LaFave, Ayden LaFave and Jovyn LaFave; one great-grandchild, Landon Lekich; two sisters, Mary Wooderson and Barbara Grogan; four brothers, Charles Gaige, William Gaige, Richard Potter, Jr., and Augustus Potter; four sisters-in-law, Beverly Sampson, Nancy LaFave, Robin Gaige and Linda Gaige; one brother-in-law, William LaFave, Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her parents, her husband, her parents-in-law, William "Bill" LaFave and Doris and Earl Hiler, two brothers, Thomas Gaige and John Gaige and two brothers-in-law, Sam Sampson and Vernon LaFave and a sister-in-law, Noresta LaFave all died previously.

Services will be 1 pm Monday April 2, 2018 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY, with Kimberly LaFave, presiding, (Josie's niece). Family and friends are invited to gather at the Philadelphia Fire Hall immediately following services. Private burial will be in the LaFave Family Cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be from 11-1 pm prior to the service.
