James Russell "Rocky" Maloy, 75, of Keyes Rd., died at his lifelong home on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Born to Robert William and Laura Harris Maloy on December 9, 1942. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his two sons Brian and Brad, and his daughter Linda Maloy Groff (Sean). He is also survived by two step-children, Joseph Ellis and Anna Claire Ellis and five grandchildren, Diana and Jacob Maloy (Brian); Eric Maloy (Brad); and Zachary and Maximilian Ellis (Joseph). He is survived by three sisters, Evelyn Brand, Watertown, Margaret Dutton, Oregon and Helen Fuhrman (Richard), Theresa; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, four brothers, Douglas, William, Walter and Carl and two sisters, Julia Dougal and Ethel DePalma.
Russell married Nancy Ann Smiley in 1968 and the marriage ended with her death in 1978. He married Joan M. Ellis in 1980.
Russell attended local schools starting out in the one room school house on the Halls Corners Road. He graduated from Indian River Central High School in 1962. He purchased the family farm in 1967 and continued with farming for many years. He also was employed by Agway in Evans Mills, the Township of Antwerp and the Indian River Central School District from which he retired in 2001.
Calling hours will be 1-4 pm Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY. Respecting Russell's wishes there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to Hospice of Jefferson County whose care allowed Russell to remain at home in his final days; any charity supporting Alzheimer's research; or a charity of personal choice.
