Obituary of Alden LaClair
Alden J. LaClair, 86, of Co. Rt. 16, passed away Sunday morning November 19, 2017 at home, surrounded by family while under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born on May 1, 1931 in the town of Worth, he was one of four boys of Harold and Rosa Lapp LaClair. He was a graduate of Watertown High School in 1949 and continued his education at Canton ATI with an Associate Degree in 1952.
On August 15, 1953, Alden married the love of his life, Norma Ganter at the First United Methodist Church, Watertown, NY.
Alden was a service engineer at the New York Air Brake, Watertown, NY from 1952-1965 and an insurance agent and office manager for Prudential Insurance, Watertown, NY, retiring in 1993 after 28 years of service.
He was a 40 year member and charter member of the Pamelia Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for 16 years. Alden received the "Citizen of the Year" award two years in a row and was a past member of the Evans Mills Masonic Lodge.
Besides spending time with family and friends he enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Lake Okeechobee, FL, golfing, watching sports, especially the New York Yankees and took pride in his lawn.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Norma; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Kevin and Jennifer LaClair, Evans Mills, NY, Kip and Sandra LaClair, Evans Mills, NY; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kimberly Wilson and her companion Benny Foote, Evans Mills, NY, Kelly and Jamie Kirkland, Theresa, NY; 18 grandchildren, Steven LaClair, Summer Dempsey, Samuel LaClair, Sierra LaClair, Christopher Wilson, Cole Wilson, Corey Wilson, Kristy Curtis, Kayla Brown, Connor Brown, Lindsey Buckley, Jenna Losey, Randy Gleason, Nicole Christopher, Tiffany Kirland, Jon LaClair, Jamie LaClair and Joshua LaClair; 19 great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Joan LaClair, Pamelia, NY; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, two brothers Vernon LaClair and Robert LaClair, a son-in-law, Robert Brown, two grandchildren, Brandon and Brooke Gleason and a great-grandchild, Alanna Buckley all died before him.
Funeral Services will be 12 pm Saturday November 25, 2017 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY with Rev. Joe Moran of the Indian River Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Evans Mills Cemetery, with a Celebration of Alden's life at the Evans Mills Fire Department.
Calling hours will be 2-4 & 7-9 pm Friday, November 24, 2017 at the funeral home.
