Richard J. Hall, 77 of 8804 N. Main Street and Paradise Lane, Lake Bonaparte died Saturday, November 06, 2010 at Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Carthage where he was a resident.
Born July 29, 1933 in Deferiet, NY, he was the son of Warren J. and Martha L. Van Alstine Hall and graduated from Carthage High School in 1950.
He married Charlotte Staie February 14, 1953 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church Rectory with Rev. Henry McFadden officiating.
April 7, 1953 he entered into active service with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving aboard the USS Stoddard
DD556 and the USS Fred T. Berry and was honorably discharged April 3, 1955.
Mr. Hall was employed with St. Regis Paper Company, Deferiet for 17 years and then the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier for 26 years.
He was a member of the Indian River Lions Club, Evans Mills, 100% past District Governor of Lions International District 20W, member and past officer of NYS rural Letter Carriers Association, 55 year member of the American Legion Post 916, Antwerp, past president of the Evans Mills Fire Department, past treasurer of the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired of Jefferson County, Watertown, Ithaca Speech and Hearing Association, life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, past president of the Sight Society of Northeaster New York, Albany, Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club, Deferiet Union Church. He had also received 2 Lions International Presidential Awards and the Robert F.Uplinger Award for Outstanding Service to Lions International and Community Service.
Surviving besides his wife, Charlotte are 3 sons and their wives, James R. and Karen, Beaver River, Michael John F. and Mary, Carthage and Thomas S. and Suzanne, Roswell, GA; 5 grandchildren, Taylor and Kendall Hall, Rosewell, GA, Michael Robert Hall, Carthage and Nicole and Alexander Hall, Beaver Falls; a brother and his wife, Frederick and Doreen Hall, Ellenton, FL; a brother-in-law, Charles Clark, St. Paul, MN; and an aunt, Iva Van Allstine, Laurel, MD.
A sister, Joan Clark died before him.
The funeral will be 11 am Tuesday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Evans Mills with Rev. Donald Briant officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Evans Mills with military honors (Antwerp Legion Post 916).
Calling hours are 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm Monday at the funeral home in Evans Mills. Past District Governors will conduct a memorial service at 8:30 pm.
