Julia Ida Miles Decker, 82, of Main Street passed away December 24, 2010 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.
Born June 7, 1928 in Odessa, Ontario, Canada she was a naturalized citizen of the United States. She was the daughter of the late Ilah Card Miles and Douglas Homer Miles. She graduated from Theresa High School in 1945 and attended the Watertown School of Commerce.
Julia was employed by Bell Telephone, Watertown, NY from 1947 - 1948. She was librarian at the Theresa Free Library for twenty-three years, 1968-1991. She married Alfred William Decker Sr. June 1, 1947 at the Theresa Methodist Church. Her husband pre-deceased her on May 8, 1997.
Julia is survived by two daughters, Ilah Neddo, Philadelphia and Dorene Decker, Theresa; three sons and their wives, Alfred Jr. and Margie Empey Decker, Theresa, David J. and Jean Welser Decker, Theresa, and Daniel and Christina King Decker, Albertville, Alabama; eleven grandchildren, Amber Neddo Graham, Andrew Neddo, Nicole Decker, Robert Decker, Bence Decker, Candan Decker, Brylee Decker, Chantel Decker, Lori Kelsey, Lisa Brenon, and Mike Steria; four great-grandchildren, Blaine Graham, Paige Graham, Ava Neddo, and Drew Neddo; and four sisters, Betty Strough, Gouverneur, Thelma Dodge, North Syracuse, Wilma George, Bellevue, Washington, and Janette Thune, Cape Vincent. She was pre-deceased by one sister, Hazel Arleana Miles who died May 14, 1936 of whooping cough at age 2 years.
As per Julia's wishes there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 pm at the Theresa Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Vrooman officiating with a reception following at the Theresa Fire Hall. Burial and a graveside service will be in the spring at Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa, NY. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa.
