Obituary of Robert Monica
Robert H. Monica, 81, of Co. Rt. 21, expired Saturday evening, April 14, 2018 at his home.
Born on October 17, 1936 in Theresa, NY, he was a son to Howard and Evelyn Jones Monica. He graduated from Theresa High School and worked at the New York Air Brake before joining the US Air Force in 1957 and he was honorably discharged in 1960.
He married Virginia VanTassel of Theresa, on Aug 7, 1958 at St. Francis Xavier Church, Redwood NY, with the Rev. Emil LaLonde. The couple had six children from their marriage.
He was trained as a Lab Technician in the U.S. Air Force after which he served a tour in Korea where he was awarded a medal representing commitment to world health by the South Korean Government. After leaving the service he returned home where he went to work for Mercy Hospital for 23 years before transferring to House of Good Samaritan for 15 plus years after which he worked for Oneida City Hospital, Oneida NY, for a few years before his retirement. Robert was also the Town of Theresa Supervisor from 1974 to 1982, and he was also the Chairman of the Jefferson County Health Committee.
Robert had a passion for hunting with his family, wood working, making quilts, sawing lumber, and building his camp fires.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Virginia; a son and daughter-in-law, Toby and Bianca Monica, Theresa, NY; two grandsons Patrick Monica, Brewerton, NY; Benjaman Monica, Theresa, NY; one granddaughter, Sandy Baumann, Castorland, NY, and two great-granddaughters, Selena and Hailey.
Robert is predeceased by three children.
The funeral will be 11:00 am Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home with Pastor D.L. Marshall officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa.
Calling hours are 9 to 11 am Wednesday April 18, 2018.
