Obituary of Alma Sourwine
Alma F. Sourwine, 93, of NYS Rt. 26 passed away Tuesday morning September 5, 2017 at Samaritan Summit Village, Watertown, NY.
Born on November 23, 1923 in Alexandria Bay, NY, she was a daughter of Floyd and Lucina Hagan Simonds and graduated from Alexandria Bay High School in 1943.
Alma married Elmer Sourwine on September 12, 1952 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, LaFargeville, NY, with the Rev. Frederick F. Haworth, Jr., officiating. Mr. Sourwine passed away April 15, 2002.
The couple owned and operated the family farm, which has been in the Sourwine family since 1867. In 1984 they sold their farm to their sons and became semi-retired, but continued to live at the farm.
She was a member of North Redwood Club and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Redwood, NY.
Alma was a devoted wife and mother and very faithful in her religious beliefs. She enjoyed cooking, eating at Miss Laura's Diner and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Bonnie Sourwine, Alexandria Bay, NY, Danny and Sharon Sourwine, Redwood, NY; six grandchildren, Jenna Sourwine, Matthew Sourwine and wife Taylor, Rhys Milsap and wife Kristin, Keith Sourwine, Ashley Sourwine and Michael Sourwine; one great-granddaughter, Grace Emily Milsap; a brother and sister-in-law, Roderick and Ethel Simonds, Watertown, NY; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Elmer, a son, Michael, three sisters, Atheda Campbell, Monica Simonds and Naomi Alexander and one brother Hamilton Simonds all died before her.
Memorial Services will be 1 pm Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY, with Rev. Allan J. Ferguson of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Redwood, NY, officiating. Burial will be in Redwood Cemetery, Redwood, NY.
Calling hours will be 11 am – 1 pm prior to the service.
