Joan B. Spies, 87, of Spies Rd., died Sunday evening July 23, 2017 at The Cottages at Garden Grove, Cicero, NY.
Born on July 22, 1930 in Malone, NY, she was the only child of Kenneth and Irene Deragon Berry. She graduated from Brushton High School in 1948 and received a Bachelor's degree from Plattsburgh State Teacher's College in 1952.
Joan met Royce O. Spies at a square dance and they were married on July 10, 1954 in West Bangor, NY. He died September 28, 2015.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church – Dorcas Society, Redwood, NY and Eastern Star, Alexandria Bay, NY.
Mrs. Spies was a home economics teacher at Hammond Central School for 35 years.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing and dancing.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law; David Spies, Redwood, NY and Dale and Stacy Spies, Cicero, NY; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Services will be 3 pm Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 43700 Lake Street, Redwood, NY with Pastor Allan J. Ferguson, officiating.
