Richard D. Farr, 85, of Beckwith Rd., died Monday morning, March 12, 2018 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY.
Born on April 8, 1932 in Highstown, NJ, he was the only child of David A. and Florence Oakley Farr and he graduated from Highstown High School in 1950.
He entered the US Navy in June of 1950 and was honorably discharged in January of 1955.
Richard married Valerie Clark on October 8, 1972 in Lincroft, NJ.
He was an owner and operator of Best By Farr Farms. Inspite of his handicap, determination is what kept him going for the past years. He trained dogs (pointing dogs) for 20 years from horseback, ran the shooting preserve and raised all the birds as well as farming and raising strawberries, raspberries and sweet corn.
Richard was a member and chairman of Trustees of the Evans Mills United Methodist Church, member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau and the Watertown American Legion.
His life was devoted to working and taking care of his farm.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Valerie; daughter, Jeannie Marie Farr, Kissimmee, FL; son, David A. Farr and his companion, Karen, Bricktown, NJ; daughter, Lisa M. Farr, Bricktown, NJ; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Lee and Robert Sleeman, Coopersburg, PA; daughter, Carolyn Matarazzo, Tracy, CA; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Debbie Bien, Englewood, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Melissa Bien, Leesburg, FL; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY. There will be no funeral or calling hours. A Celebration of Life service will be announced later this summer.
