Phyllis I. Huddleston, 88, lifelong resident, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare where she had been a resident since 2016.
Born on May 19, 1929 in Theresa, NY, she was a daughter of Laurence and Emma Pierce Gilman. She graduated from Theresa High School in 1946 and attended Watertown School of Commerce.
Phyllis married Lyle W. "Clutchy" Huddleston on November 28, 1947, at her parents' home on Mill Street with the Rev. Myron E. VanOrnum, officiating. Lyle died on May 31, 2010.
She was a legal secretary for attorneys Quimby, Gosier, Lengyel and Hrabchak for three years, an accountant for Busler and Huddleston for five years and then a secretary for the Watertown Postmaster for twenty years, retiring in 1989.
Phyllis was a member and treasurer of the Theresa Progress Group and was active with the Theresa High School Alumni-Reunion Committee. She and her husband were avid NY Yankee fans and she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her grandson.
Survivors include a son, Dan Huddleston and his companion, Wendy Pitts, Watertown, NY; a daughter, Bonnie Perkins, Alexandria Bay, NY; a grandson, C. Stasse Perkins and his wife, Katie of Sackets Harbor, NY; two great-grandchildren, Norah and Holden Perkins; a sister, Donna Delello, Theresa, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents, her husband, Clutchy, three brothers, Wesley Gilman, Ralph Gilman, and Donald Gilman, two sisters, Willabelle Coon and Gladys Lester all died previously.
Calling hours will be 4-6 pm Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa, NY at a later date.
