Ray D. Narrow

 

EVANS MILLS

 

Ray D. Narrow, 92, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Carthage, NY, where he has been a resident since March 2014.

 

Born on October 5, 1925 in Evans Mills, NY, he was a son of George and Myrtle Gardner Narrow and graduated from Evans Mills High School.

 

He was a WWII Veteran, entering the US Army on December 3, 1943, serving in Central Europe and Rhineland and was honorably discharged on April 19, 1946.

 

Ray married Doris E. Bevens of Evans Mills, NY on July 20, 1946 at the Episcopal rectory in Theresa, NY, with Rev. Carl M. Worden, officiating.

 

The couple lived in the Evans Mills area, purchasing a home on Martin Rd. South in 1947.  Ray worked for Borden Milk Plant in Evans Mills and Philadelphia, NY and later he worked in maintenance for Dry Hill Air Force Base and NYS Department of Corrections at Dry Hill.  After retirement, the couple moved to Milltown Housing, Evans Mills, NY, in October 2005.  Mrs. Narrow passed away July 28, 2011.

 

He was a life long member of St. Andrew’s Shared Ministries, serving as Warden, member of the Philadelphia American Legion for many years and was active with Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Evans Mills, NY.  Ray also received the “Citizen of the Year” award. 

 

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ray D. Narrow, Jr., “Buster” and Carole, Evans Mills, NY and William J. Narrow, Heuvelton, NY; a grandson, Kyle R. Narrow, Evans Mills, NY.

 

His parents, his wife, Doris, three brothers, George Narrow, William Narrow and Edward Narrow, two sisters, Mildred Crossman and Gertrude Hardman all died before him.
