Helen I. Robbins, 84, of Depot Street died early Sunday morning at home surrounded by her loving family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born March 11, 1933 in Norfolk, NY, she was the daughter of Dennis and Grace Raymond LaComb. She was educated in a one room school house in the Town of Stockholm and graduated in 1951 from Adams Center Central School. Following graduation she was employed with W. C. Rice, Adams, Perpetual Building and Loan, Washington, DC, Anthony C. Capone, DDS, Watertown and Carr & Bitz, Depauville.
She married Frank W. Robbins on January 27, 1952 at the Smithville Baptist Church, with Rev. Bernard C. Schell officiating.
On July 5, 1961 Mr. and Mrs. Robbins purchased the C. E. Duegaw Hardware Store in Antwerp, NY. They moved to Antwerp on November 1, 1961 and ran the business as Robbins Plumbing, Heating and Hardware until their retirement on January 1, 2001.
Mrs. Robbins was a member of the Valley Rebekah Lodge, Depauville, Earnest Rebekah Lodge, where she served as Grand Noble, Antwerp, Antwerp Firemen’s Auxiliary, First Congregational Church of Antwerp where she served as President in the Circle of Faith, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 916, serving as past President, past Chairman of the Jefferson County American Legion Auxiliary and member and host parent of the American Field Service (AFS), Philadelphia.
She enjoyed and traveling to England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Australia, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Holland and the Caribbean, camping and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Kurt and Maureen Robbins, Watertown; a daughter, Janice Hull, Antwerp; American Field Service son and his wife, Michael and Grace Kenny, Norwood, South Australia; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Glenn Robbins, Liverpool, NY and John and Chris Robbins, Westford, MA; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Backus and her husband, Jacob, Kristin Dickson and her husband, James, Louis Lee Hull and his wife, Victoria, and Cassandra Hull and her companion, Anthony Eager; six great grandchildren, James Dickson, Julian Backus, Dustin Murphy, Randy Murphy, Mia Hull and Greyson Eager; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A grandson, Brett William Robbins, her sister and husband, Gladys and Harry Easdell and a niece, Janice Easdell died before her.
The funeral will be 10 am Wednesday at the First Congregational Church of Antwerp UCC with Rev. Genevieve Dox and Kenneth Leamon, Pastor Emeritus officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Brookside Cemetery, Watertown. A reception will be at the Antwerp American Legion at 1 pm.
